An incredible find in a crate of 78s that came with a 1930s vintage HMV phonograph! A copy of El Cant dels Ocells (Carol of the Birds), performed in English with orchestra by Els Multimilionaris de Plàstic. It was originally released in 1926, and we are lucky to be able to play this gorgeous tune for you during this holiday season, 90 years later!!
Yes, this copy has seen a lot of wear but the beauty of the arrangement and performance still shines through the surface noise. The piano solo is by the famous Catalan improvisor Ron Rost! You can check out a video of the 78 playback at

Lyrics
When rose the eastern star, the birds came from afar,
In that full might of glory.
With one melodious voice they sweetly did rejoice
And sang the wondrous story,
Sang, praising God on high, enthroned above the sky,
And his fair mother Mary.
The eagle left his lair, came winging through the air,
His message loud arising.
And to his joyous cry the sparrow made reply,
His answer sweetly voicing:
"Overcome are death and strife, this night is born new life",
The robin sang rejoicing.
